Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Authors should submit their work via the online submission link. Submissions may be classified as either book reviews or scholarly articles. Scholarly articles should include original research and not be under consideration elsewhere.

We strive to review manuscripts on a rolling basis as they come in, and our goal is to provide a decision with completed peer reviews within 8 weeks.

Instructions for author submissions using the PKP platform can be found here

The Perspective style guide, using Chicago/Turabian, can be found here. As the journal grows, recent issues will be the best way to determine stylistic and scholarly conventions, but some important points include:

  • Canadian English is required.
  • Biblical references: 1 Cor 3:7-21, 1 Cor 3:7-4:1; Is 40-66; Rev 6:1, 4, 7; 8:2, 5 (i.e. no spacing between colon and numbers).
  • The phrases "Old Testament" (or "Hebrew Bible") and "New Testament" should not be abbreviated.
  • Use double quotation marks (use single for inside quotations).
  • Quotations of more than five lines should be formatted as block quotations with no quotation marks.
  • Use original script for Hebrew, Greek, Syriac, and Coptic text where possible. Latin text should be in italics. Do not use quotation marks for these scripts.
  • Numbers under 10 (except in lists and page references) should be spelled out.
  • Page numbers should be in the form: p. 12, pp. 42–54, pp. 147–9, pp. 116–17.
  • In references to patristic works, use forms such as 4.xxvi.27 or 4.26.27

Questions can be sent to perspectivejournal@prairie.edu at any time regarding submissions or reviews and will be directed to the appropriate editor.

Articles

Scholarly Articles

Scholarly articles should be 5,000–7,000 words including footnotes and bibliography. The editors welcome enquiries at any time about the suitability of articles for publication in Perspective.

Articles should be submitted to Perspective in Word format (doc or docx). Please use the Perspective submission template.

Submissions should be double-spaced with 12-point Times New Roman. Use Chicago/Turabian (with footnotes) for citations. Submissions should also include an abstract of 100-200 words placed at the beginning of the article. This abstract should be the same as the one entered during the submission process.

Perspective uses a mutually anonymous peer review process to ensure fairness and impartiality. Please anonymize your manuscript, removing all references to your name, co-authors, and previous publications, as well as any identifying information about the setting or participants in your research where relevant.

When referring to your previous work, replace the citation in the text with “[Author XXXX] Details removed for anonymous review.” In the bibliography, do not include the title of the article, the journal, or any other identifying information. Instead, list “Author” alphabetically with the other “A” references, rather than according to your last name.

For anonymizing research contexts (as applicable), use pseudonyms for institutions or participants, and avoid specifying cities or locations that could reveal identities. For example, "a bilingual university in Ottawa" should be generalized to "a bilingual university in a major Canadian city" to ensure anonymity.

Please also remove any identifying information from the “Properties” section of your document file. This process can be done by clicking “File,” then “Properties,” and deleting any personal details.

Manuscripts that are not anonymized will be returned to authors for revisions before being sent to reviewers, potentially delaying the review process. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, you will be asked to restore the original information and references.

Reviews

Perspective aims to be a journal that advances multi-discipline discussions on topics affecting the global Church. As such, Perspective strives to solicit reviews of recently published books that further the journal’s goals and mission. Example publishers include Langham Literature.

Reviews can be submitted using the Perspective book review template.  Reviews should be a maximum of 1000 words. Submissions should be double-spaced with 12-point Times New Roman

We do not accept unsolicited reviews. However, Perspective editors are open to suggestions for books that potentially align with the journal’s mission. Recommendations, including those from authors or publishers, or offers to review can be sent to perspectivejournal@prairie.edu.

Reviewers should also consider the following guidelines:

  • Reviews should identify the book’s thesis or main argument and provide a summary of the argument.
  • Reviews should address issues such as the plausibility of the argument, nature of the support offered about the argument, and soundness of the methodological approach.
  • It is recommended that the writing style of the review should aim for clarity, conciseness, and readability.
  • When including quotations from the book under review, use direct quotes in a parenthetical format, rather than placing them in a footnote. It is also important to keep quotations to a minimum.

All reviews will be reviewed by an editor.
